How do I register for eDividend?

1. To register, complete the relevant prescribed form which can be obtained from any stock broker’s office or downloaded from Bursa Malaysia’s website and submit the form and relevant supporting documents to the stock broker’s office where your CDS account is maintained.
2. If you are unable to be present at your stock broker’s office to submit the form and supporting documents, please ensure that your documents have been witnessed by an acceptable witness specified by Bursa Depository. An acceptable witness includes an Authorised Officer of a stock broker, a Dealer’s representative, a notary public, or an authorised officer of Malaysian Embassy/High Commission.
3. If your CDS account is held in the name of a nominee, the nominee will register for the eDividend.

Bursa Malaysia today reminded that the new board structure, which is the Main Market and ACE Market, is on schedule to be implemented on 3 August 2009.

As part of a market-based approach, the streamlining of the boards structure entails a new regulatory framework for listing and equity fundraising which was announced by the Securities Commission (SC) and Bursa Malaysia on 8 May 2009. With this, Bursa Malaysia’s Listing Requirements has been revamped to cater for the new structure.

Under the new structure, Main and Second Boards will be merged into a single unified board for established companies and will be called the Main Market. The current MESDAQ Market, which is for technology-based and high growth companies, will also be transformed into an alternative market for emerging companies of all sizes and sectors and will be called the ACE Market.

The new board structure provides companies with a clearly defined platform to raise capital, which will enhance efficiency, access and certainty in the fund raising process as well as ensuring that investor protection remains intact.

Following from the change, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Second Board index will retire while the FTSE Bursa Malaysia MESDAQ index will be renamed as the FTSE Bursa Malaysia ACE index. Eligible Second Board constituents will be absorbed into the Main Market indices. These changes will take effect on 3 August 2009.

NEW ONE HOUR TRADING HALT TO INCREASE TRADING EFFICIENCY; EFFECTIVE 3 AUGUST 2009

Bursa Malaysia today announced that effective 3rd August 2009, the trading halt of stocks for the
purpose of disseminating material announcements by listed companies will be shortened to one hour
from one trading session currently. This will benefit listed companies as there will only be a
minimal disruption of their securities from being traded. Investors will also benefit from more
trading opportunities as the suspension hours are significantly reduced. A trading halt refers to a
temporary halt in the trading of listed securities upon the release of information that has
material effect on the price of the securities.

Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Berhad, Dato’ Yusli Mohamed Yusoff said, “A trading
halt imposed when making material disclosure is important to enable investors adequate time to
evaluate the company’s announcements and make informed investment decisions. Shortening of the halt
period will enhance market efficiency as trading interruption is kept to the minimum, and both the
issuer and investor will benefit from being able to trade with minimal interruptions.”

Currently, Bursa Malaysia requires listed companies to make material disclosures to the exchange
and these announcements are posted on Bursa Malaysia’s website, ensuring investors have continuous
access to corporate information.

On 3rd August, the new suspension time will be as follows:

• For materials announcements that are made before the trading period starts (9:00 am) as well as
  between 9:00 am and 11:00 am, a trading halt will be imposed for 1 hour from the time the material
  announcement is made. Order entry and modification will be allowed during this time and Theoretical
  Opening Price (TOP) will be calculated, but no matching of trades will take place.
• For material announcement that are released after 11:00 am, the trading halt will be until the
  end of the trading session at 12:30 pm. Similarly, where the material announcement is released
  after 3:30 pm, the trading halt will be until the end of the trading session at 5:00 pm. Order
  entry and modification is not allowed during this time, and TOP will not be calculated.
• For material announcements that are released between 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm, the trading halt
  imposed will be for 1 hour from 2:30 pm. Order entry and modification will be allowed during this
  time and TOP will be calculated, but no matching of trades will take place.
• Where the material announcement is released between 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm, a trading halt will be
  imposed for 1 hour from the time the material announcement is made. Order entry and modification
  will be allowed during this time and TOP will be calculated, but no matching of trades will take
  place.
• A trading halt will not be imposed where the material announcement is released during the
  window period from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.

BURSA MALAYSIA’S REDUCTION OF TICK SIZE POISED TO BOOST LIQUIDITY IN EQUITIES MARKET

Bursa Malaysia today announced the revised tick size structure, which will see a smaller tick size, and is planned for implementation on Monday, 3 August 2009. The tick size is the minimum price variation between the buy and sell price for a stock. The tick size is reduced in line with the current practice by global developed markets and more importantly, to create market depth, enable price discovery and boost liquidity in the local equities market.

Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Berhad, Dato’ Yusli Mohamed Yusoff said, “Investors rely on information such as tick sizes to estimate future movement of a counter’s share price as well as form a gauge of market sentiment. We anticipate that this reduction of tick size will broaden participation from investors who are poised to provide more liquidity to the local market as investors can enter and exit the market more easily. In addition, the smaller tick size will enable investors and traders to take advantage of more trading opportunities with each price movement, however small it is.  This is more evident with the advent of electronic access or Direct Market Access infrastructure which operates efficiently with smaller tick sizes.”

To investors, this revised tick size structure means that the minimum price change of listed securities is now smaller. For example, currently, a RM5.10 stock is quoted in multiples of 5 sen which means that the next tick up is RM5.15 and the next tick down is RM5.05. With the new tick sizes, investors can now quote in multiples of 1 sen which will now see a RM5.10 stock go up to the next tick which is RM5.11 or next tick down which is RM5.09.  This will create more trading opportunities for both buyer and seller.

The equity Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) on the Main Board will also benefit from the change to a smaller tick size.  Currently, these ETFs have a tick size of 1 sen regardless of any price. In future, any ETFs below RM1.00 will have a tick size of 0.1 sen and ETFs that are priced between RM1.00 and RM2.995 will have a tick size of 0.5 sen.  For ETFs that are priced at RM3.00 and above, the new tick size will be 1 sen. Meanwhile, the bond ETF maintains its extremely small tick size of 0.1 sen.

In respect to the bidding price for buying-in, the Exchange will retain the ten (10) ticks. Arising from this, the buying-in price will be based on the current tick sizes instead of the new tick sizes to ensure that the buying-in price is attractive to potential sellers.

The following Table 1 and 2 illustrate the differences between the current tick sizes and the new tick sizes for all listed securities traded on Bursa Malaysia as well as listed Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs):
